A renowned diaspora poet and translator.

Gurcharan Rampuri was a famous diaspora Punjabi poet. His birth took place on 23 January, 1929 A.D. in the village Rampur of Ludhiana, in the home of father S. Mohan Singh and mother Bachan Kaur. Gurcharan Rampuri, after completing high school education, did a diploma in Electrical Draftsman and obtained B.A. from Punjab University, Chandigarh. He started writing poetry at a young age and also began reciting poetry publicly. In 1964 A.D., he went to Canada and settled in Vancouver (British Columbia).

Gurcharan Rampuri started his literary journey from Preetlari magazine. During his literary journey, he was associated with many institutions. He wrote Punjabi poetry throughout his entire life and was known as a progressive thinker. Gurcharan Rampuri wrote more than thirteen poetry collections, among which mainly Kankan Di Khushboo, Kaul Karar, Ahini Gali, Kanchni, Katlagah, Agnaar, and Kirnan Da Aahlan, etc., were published. In his poetry, issues of social inequality, human rights, and modern life are prominent, which connect the new generation with modern thinking. Gurcharan Rampuri's poems have been translated into many languages.

For his contribution to Punjabi literature, Gurcharan Rampuri received many awards, among which mainly K.S. Dhaliwal Award, Ludhiana; Nand Lal Noorpuri Award, Yuba City, America; Punjabi Bhasha Vibhag, Patiala; Punjabi Sahit Academy, Chandigarh; and Punjabi Likhari Sabha, Rampur, etc., awards were received. Gurcharan Rampuri's death occurred on 8 October 2018 A.D. in old age.
